Iran, Armenia call for expansion of mutual ties

TEHRAN – Iranian First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri has expressed the Islamic Republic’s readiness for the expansion of ties between Iran and Armenia in all fields.

The two countries can take effective steps in line with the two nations’ interests through enhancing cooperation, Jahangiri said in a phone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan on Sunday.

In light of growing relations between Tehran and Yerevan, there’s potential for both sides to further improve mutual ties in various spheres, the Iranian official said.

Jahangiri added Iran is ready to boost cooperation with Armenia in different areas including energy, power generation and transmission as well as transit of commodities and passengers through Iran, Armenia and Georgia.

Abrahamyan, for his part, called for expansion of cooperation with Iran in different fields especially in the energy sector.

He expressed optimism Iran, Armenia and Georgia would work together to pave the way for improvement of transit cooperation.
